Founder, Chief Consultant
After graduating summa cum laude (Phi Beta Kapa) from the University of Colorado (Boulder) in 2006, I crossed the Pacific Ocean and built a career in Japan that has spanned two decades.
My journey started in the education sector and then shifted to government service as a Coordinator for International Relations with the Kagawa Prefectural Government. In this role, I helped establish core language and publicity infrastructure for the inaugural Setouchi Triennale International Art Festival. I translated for visits between the Kagawa Governor and such foreign dignitaries as the Ambassador of the United States, the Ambassador of France, and many more. I also helped promote valuable Japanese culture and traditions, such as the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage and haiku poetry, to international audiences.
In 2013, I joined Tadano Ltd., a Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed manufacturer that is a global leader in the crane and lifting equipment industry. As the first full-time, non-Japanese employee of the company’s corporate headquarters, I began my work by renewing the company’s profile literature and introductory videos. In order to deliver new and enhanced content to a wider international audience, I established Tadano’s first social media account, the official Tadano Ltd. YouTube page.


I then worked with the company’s legal team to execute due diligence on international export regimes, with a specific focus on the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and establish expanded internal export control policies. I then worked together with the company’s legal teams and external legal partners to enhance the company’s litigation defense and compliance processes.
In 2019, I stepped into the role of communication leader of Tadano’s Project Management Office in charge of the acquisition and integration of the Demag Mobile Crane Business. In order to successfully execute this $215 million acquisition, I once again worked hand in hand with the company’s internal and external legal teams to review and negotiate the acquisition contract. Prior to the close of the deal, I visited and spoke with more than 2,000 future colleagues working in the Demag Mobile Crane Business’s operational locations in Germany, France, Austria, the United States, the UAE, India, Singapore, Australia, Brazil, and other countries. I worked together with Tadano Ltd. management and our partners in the acquisition negotiation to ensure constructive and compliant joint communications plans were executed smoothly. These communications were targeted at both internal team members and external stakeholders, such as crane industry partners and media participating at the bauma 2019 construction machinery trade fair. Once the acquisition was successfully completed, I was stationed for more than 3 months in Germany, where I worked with Tadano executives and local Demag and Tadano Faun team members to ensure the successful integration of the new business.


In 2023, I then transitioned to the company’s R&D Division, where I managed Tadano’s proprietary gated development process for the design and production of high-quality cranes and lifting equipment. I then became the lead project manager and negotiator for the company’s first foray into the wind energy sector. I connected our internal teams with our partners at one of the world’s leading wind turbine manufactures, Vestas Wind Systems, to successfully negotiate a product development agreement for the design, manufacture, and delivery of new lifting equipment for applications in offshore wind turbines.
With all of these experiences in hand and with a desire to see successful synergy, cooperation, and growth realized between Japan’s excellent businesses and their potential partners/clients in international markets, I established Hekigan Solutions in 2025.
The Meaning of "Hekigan" (HECK-ee-gahn)
When I first came to Japan, I traveled the pilgrimage route associated with Oku no Hosomichi (The Narrow Road to the Deep North), a travel diary written by Matsuo Basho, who is known as the father of haiku poetry. Since then, I have continued my journey with haiku, writing in both English and Japanese. My haiku teacher gave me the pen name “Hekigan,” which means “Blue Eyes.”
Through my eyes, I see Japan from a new perspective, and through my work at Hekigan Solutions, I provide Win/Win solutions to all of my valued customers.
